AFRICAN GREEN REVOLUTION CONFERENCE

28 - 29 August 2008
Radisson SAS Scandinavia Hotel - Oslo, Norway

The third African Green Revolution Conference will take place 28 - 29 August 2008 in Oslo, Norway. This urgent and ongoing dialogue will zero in on the continuing process to transform Africa’s agricultural landscape from subsistence farming to sustainable modern agriculture. The highest-level group of speakers and participants will convene at the conference to report on progress made in 2008 and drive actionable plans to be executed into 2009.

We are pleased to announce that Kofi Annan, Chairman of the Board of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), will attend this year’s event. Annan will be joined by a select group of leaders from business, academia, government, non-profits and NGOs. The 2008 conference theme “Alliance for Action” underscores the importance for these stakeholders to work together to realize clear and measurable goals and offers a platform to create action plans necessary to achieve them.

The 2008 African Green Revolution Conference will build on the value of public/private partnerships addressed in detail at the 2007 and 2006 meetings. A combination of plenary sessions and smaller roundtable discussions will focus on key issues such as: increasing productivity in African agriculture, achieving food security, and pursuing wider African economic growth priorities. A spotlight will be trained on the role of farming as a business at both the commercial and small-holder level, with an eye toward true market effectiveness. A critical undercurrent to the dialogue will be developing the mechanisms for a system of adequate rural agricultural financing.

We look forward to welcoming a dynamic roster of high-profile speakers to the 2008 African Green Revolution Conference. Equally important will be the contribution of every participant in attendance to build an “Alliance for Action” and ensure that we leave with concrete commitments to new and extended partnerships and actionable plans.
